Intellectual Property Enforcement in Thailand: A Significant Step Forward in 2026
Strengthening IP Enforcement in Thailand: A Significant Step Forward
We commend the recent joint operation led by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) in dismantling a major network distributing counterfeit goods in one of Bangkok’s prominent shopping districts.
The operation resulted in the seizure of over 48,000 infringing items, with an estimated value exceeding THB 100 million, and damages surpassing THB 500 million.
This case highlights several critical trends in today’s enforcement landscape:
• The increasing sophistication of counterfeit distribution networks
• The use of complex logistics and “ant trade” smuggling methods to evade detection
• The continued presence of physical marketplaces as key distribution channels, alongside online platforms
More importantly, it reflects Thailand’s growing commitment to strengthening intellectual property enforcement, aligning with international expectations and supporting the country’s efforts to move beyond the USTR Watch List and Physical Market concerns.
IP enforcement not merely as legal action, but as a critical pillar of economic integrity, investor confidence, and brand protection.
Effective IP enforcement requires strong collaboration between authorities, rights holders, and legal advisors particularly in addressing increasingly sophisticated infringement structures.
We will continue to support our clients with strategic enforcement, investigation coordination, and cross-border legal solutions to protect their rights in Thailand and beyond.
